This week, the Valpara\u00edso Port Company (EPV) and Terminal Portuario Valpara\u00edso (TPV) \u2014 a company belonging to Grupo de Empresas Navieras (GEN) \u2014 signed an amendment to the concession agreement that will extend the operation of Terminal 2 until December 2029, ensuring the operational continuity of the Espig\u00f3n terminal while the process for the future expansion and development of the port moves forward.<\/p>\n\n

The agreement provides for the continued operation of berths 6, 7, and 8 under the current conditions, delivering stability to the port and logistics system and guaranteeing operational continuity during a key stage in the future development of the Port of Valpara\u00edso.<\/p>\n\n

The extension was previously approved by the Competition Defense Tribunal (TDLC), which concluded that the measure is consistent with current regulations and represents an appropriate solution to ensure the terminal\u2019s operation during the transition period leading up to the next long-term concession.<\/p>\n\n

For GEN, this milestone is particularly significant due to its longstanding connection with the Valpara\u00edso Region, where the group originated and where it continues to carry out an important part of its operations.<\/p>\n\n

In this regard, GEN\u2019s Chief Executive Officer, Felipe Arriagada, stated: \u201cThe group\u2019s presence in the Valpara\u00edso Region is extremely important to us because this is where our roots are, and part of our strategy is to continue growing and maintaining an active presence in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

The continuation of the concession will allow TPV to keep contributing to the region\u2019s port development, maintaining the operational standards that have characterized its management and strengthening Valpara\u00edso\u2019s role as a strategic gateway for Chilean foreign trade.<\/p>\n\n

Regarding the role of Terminal Portuario Valpara\u00edso (TPV) within the holding company, Arriagada highlighted that \u201cit is an important asset for the group due to the type of cargo it handles and the way we conduct our operations. It serves as a benchmark in areas as relevant as safety, operational efficiency, and the way we treat people \u2014 all of which are core elements of how we do business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

In line with this, TPV Director Camilo Fern\u00e1ndez emphasized the terminal\u2019s strategic importance within the group\u2019s port network, particularly because of its leadership in breakbulk cargo handling in the region.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cTPV handles 80% of the breakbulk cargo transferred through the region, with the main products including steel, fruit, jumbo bags, project cargo, passenger vessels, and, to a lesser extent, automobiles and other types of cargo. This milestone will allow Terminal 2 to continue operating during a crucial period for the future development of the Port of Valpara\u00edso, providing greater stability to the logistics chain and foreign trade while progress is made toward the next concession process.<\/p>\n\n

For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Terminal Portuario Valpara\u00edso (TPV), Mat\u00edas Laso, welcomed \u201cthe willingness and recognition of our work shown by EPV.
